AQUASTAT -101--> An effective antiscalant

AQUASTAT -101 is an aqueous polyelectrolyte based Antiscalant manufactured by Ion Exchange. It has been specially designed to be used in reverse osmosis application.

Reverse Osmosis (RO) is the procedure where deionization of water takes place as it is being passed through under pressure through a semi-permeable reverse osmosis membrane. Using of the reverse osmosis membrane for filtration of heavily soiled water is generally accompanied by some serious threats that may lower down the productivity of the membrane. Generally the three major issues or concern are Degradation, Fouling of RO membranes and Scaling.

Deposition of particles on a membrane that leads to the plugging of the membrane is referred to as scaling. Reverse osmosis (RO) membranes along with the flow passages within the membrane elements tend to scale due to the formation of precipitation of sparingly soluble salts, such as calcium carbonate, barium sulfate, calcium sulfate and strontium sulfate. Most natural waters also comprises of relatively higher concentrations of sulfate, calcium and bicarbonate ions. Scaling generally takes place on RO membranes when the concentration of the scale-forming substances surpasses saturation limit thereby producing added solids within the RO feed water. These substances get hard to be removed from RO membranes due to their low soluble nature. Scaling dwindle the efficiency of the membranes in minimizing the concentration of solids and leads to more frequent cleanings.

RO antiscalant, sometimes mentioned as scale inhibitors, manifests as specialized chemical formulations helps in increasing the solubility of sparingly soluble salts such as CaSO4, CaCO3, BaSO4, SrSO4, and CaF which are the most common scales of concern when added to the membrane system. These antiscalants are to be used as an important component in the operation of the system in order to run the reverse osmosis systems efficiently and in a well organized manner.

AQUASTAT -101- an effective antiscalant exhibits to be a white to amber coloured formulation having a slightly acidic odour. It manifests a pH of 3.5 and is of specific gravity about 1.2. AQUASTAT -101 inhibits the formation and growth of alkaline earth carbonate and sulfate scales. It also helps in dispersing suspended solids and colloids. It acts as an excellent crystal distorter and is efficient at low dosage. AQUASTAT -101 performs as an excellent threshold inhibitor of alkaline earth scales and displays excellent dispersion of suspended solids and colloids.
